Description

Sauk River Full-Day White-Water Trip

White water on the Sauk is as good as it gets: non-stop action, amazing scenery and access to a remote section of the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, not to mention all the thrills and excitement of maneuvering Class III+ rapids.

Our highly experienced staff will take great care of you, guiding you through every heart-pumping minute and sharing their knowledge and love of the area. This trip starts at our base in Darrington where you will meet your guide and be outfitted with top-of-the-line gear.

The real adventure begins when your crew hits the water at the confluence of the milky White Chuck and crystal-clear Sauk rivers. The opaque quality of the White Chuck is the result of runoff from glaciers formed on Glacier Peak (one of the lesser known volcanoes in the range). This unique combination contributes to the Sauk’s change in color throughout the seasons.

As the water flows over boulder fields, it produces exhilarating rapids that provide the opportunity for a strong crew to challenge the features, while a conservative team can opt for more traditional lines. You’ll experience big waves and big splashes so expect to get wet.

In addition to the beautiful scenery the forest provides, there is also the chance of sighting sandpipers, mergansers, harlequin ducks and many other types of indigenous wildlife.

Fun Fact: All of the rapids you’ll encounter along the Sauk are created by boulders carried there by lahars from previous eruptions of Glacial Peak.

This trip begins at 10AM in Darrington where your group will check-in, complete waivers and suit up. At 10:30 we will load up in our vans and head to the put in where your guide will give a safety orientation prior to launch. A delicious lunch will be provided at the mid-point of your adventure. The total time for this trip is 5-6 hours, encompassing the time you check in until the time you are ready to drive away.
